Message Box "Communication port not opened" in Patrol Master

Description:
When Patrol II LCD is connected to the computer via USB cable a window is displayed with following info: "Communication port not opened". I cannot establish connection with the reader. How to solve the problem? (concerns Patrol Master ver. 2.9)

Solution:

The window with information "Communication port not opened" is displayed when following Patrol II LCD reader is connected to the computer. Each new connected reader communicates with the PC on different COM port than previous one (regardless it is connected with the same cable and to the same USB port). That's why each time it is necessary to manually choose proper COM port in Patrol Master software. Otherwise software tries to communicate with new reader on old settings and displays error information about problem with COM port opening.

In order to set proper COM port follow steps below:

  1. When window with "Communication port not opened" message is displayed click OK,
  2. In "General settings" window choose the proper port - it is indicated with the reader name Patrol II LCD, for instance: COM8 (Patrol II LCD v. 1.0),
  3. Press "Setup..." button,
  4. The reader signals proper connection setting with one short "beep" sound,
  5. To establish connection between Patrol Master software and the reader click second icon in top left corner of Patrol Master window, which is called "Initiate communication". The icon should turn inactive which indicates that the communication is successfully established.

When all of the steps are completed it is possible to send settings to the reader and download recorded events from the reader.

Suggestion: Before the Patrol II LCD reader is disconnected from the USB port please shut down Patrol Master application.
